You may want to clear your history if you’ve browsed through anything suspicious recently. A new police unit has been established to sniff out online pornography.

The newly-launched Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children Investigation Unit (MICAC) was established to monitor traffic at pornographic websites, especially those offering child porn.

Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) principal assistant director Assistant Commissioner Ong Chin Lan said that MICAC would be able to locate and pinpoint in real time, 24/7, the Internet users who are visiting these sites and it would build a “data library” of these individuals. Such information includes what portals they visit, the average time spent on each site, and the files they upload and download.

The software will even know if you served or downloaded any porn through the phone.

The intelligence derived from this will be passed on to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) so further details about the user can be found. Some of which are the porn user’s address, location, name of website, the accurate timing and duration he/she spent on these sites. “It is an offence (under Section 282 of the Penal Code) to download or upload photographic material,” Ong said. They’ll even confiscate handphones, and laptops if need be.

3,781 pornography websites have been blocked by MCMC, according to its Network Security chief Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek from 2014 until the end of March.

Most of these websites monitored were done on the principle of Internet work, where websites were linked and connected with other websites.
