The Jalan Masjid India bazaar is famous for its rows of stalls selling everything under the sun—from souvenirs and women’s accessories to toys and street food.
The Star recently reported that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has confirmed that the Deepavali season this year will be the last festive bazaar for hawkers at Jalan Masjid India.
Announcement for its closure was done in June after numerous complaints were received by DBKL, but they’ve decided to allow the festive bazaar along Jalan Masjid India to be held one last time.
Beginning from next year, all bazaars for festive seasons will be held at a new location, which is yet to be confirmed. Currently, the ministry is considering Bukit Jalil for its space and available facilities.
So, this Deepavali, be sure to head over to Jalan Masjid India and take lots of photos! The vibrant street market will certainly be missed!
The Deepavali bazaar at Jalan Masjid India will start on 1 October this year.
