This Is What Lee Chong Wei Has To Say About All The Support He’s Been Receiving After Nose Cancer Reveal

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that Datuk Lee Chong Wei has early stage nose cancer. The Star reported that BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria pleaded in a statement, “But please give Chong Wei the space and peace of mind to recover.”

A viral post on social media reported that Chong Wei was suffering from third-stage nose cancer. Norza stated, “In response to recent report concerning Datuk Lee Chong Wei, BAM confirms that the player has been diagnosed with early stage nose cancer.”

“Chong Wei is currently in Taiwan seeking treatment, and I am pleased to inform you that he is responding well to his treatment and is currently resting and recuperating amongst family and close friends,” he said.

He added, “On behalf of Chong Wei, I would like to thank all Malaysians for your prayers and concern. Your support has been his source of strength and courage.”

“We urge everyone to respect his privacy and that of his family. BAM is in constant contact with Chong Wei, and we will offer any support we can to our legend,” he said.

The three-time Olympic silver medalist went to Taiwan to receive treatment and withdrew from two majors, the World Championships in China and the Asian Games in Indonesia because of his illness. He’s expected to return home at the end of the month after completing his treatment.

The statement was also posted on Chong Wei’s Twitter and Instagram by the people managing his social media page.

When the news was confirmed on Saturday, Malaysians were shocked and many took to social media to send their well wishes and support to Dato’ Lee Chong Wei.

After the outpouring of love and support, Lee Chong Wei reached out to The Star from Taiwan, where he’s currently undergoing treatment.

“Wait for me. I’ll return to the court. Don’t forget me yet, I’m still here,” said Lee. “I’ll return soon. Thank you for all the concern and care shown to me during my two-month recovery. I’ll… say more when I come back.”

Besides Malaysians, badminton figures worldwide sent well wishes to Lee Chong Wei as well!

Five-time world champion and Chong Wei’s arch nemesis, Lin Dan of China spoke to Chinese media urging Chong Wei not to be too concerned with his badminton career right now, reported New Straits Times. Lin Dan was quoted saying “Body health is the first priority. It is not important when you return to the game. First of all, I wish Chong Wei can recover as soon as possible.’

Top shuttlers, including world No 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, also flooded social media with well wishes for Chong Wei.
