LITE Asked The Public How They Feel About Pakatan Harapan, Here?s What They Said

In a few more days, it will be one year since the historic GE14 elections.

Last May, in an unprecedented victory, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which had been the federal Opposition prior to the election, won a simple majority in the Dewan Rakyat. The election heralded the first regime change in Malaysian history, which previously saw the Barisan Nasional coalition enjoying uninterrupted reign since Merdeka in 1957.

And with this anniversary, many are thinking about whether or not the people made the right decision voting PH into power and if PH has been successful in keeping their manifesto promises.

A local radio station, LITE, launched an interesting poll, asking their viewers how they felt about PH?s rule so far. A total of 2,140 people nationwide took part in the survey and the results are in.

Out of the 10 questions, several piqued our interest. The survey found that most of the respondents said that generally, they feel better living under the rule of the PH government. However, they do feel that PH needs to focus on the rising cost of living and the country?s economic growth rather than crime and corruption.

Then, even though 66% of respondents feel that PH has delivered on at least some of their manifesto promises, one year after being voted in, most respondents only feel somewhat satisfied with what PH has done so far.

Meanwhile, when asked on whether they prefer Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over Tun Dr. Mahathir as Prime Minister, results almost tied with 36% preferring the former and 37% preferring the latter.

And issues aside, the public still generally has hope for Malaysia and believes in the idea of ?A New Malaysia?.

LITE also collaborated with Astro Awani to speak to some of Malaysia?s prominent journalists who shared their opinions on how the government has been doing so far. You can watch the first episode of the short forum in the video below.

Do you agree with what the panelists had to say? Do you feel differently to the results from the poll? Let us know how you feel about the state of our government in the comments!
