Astro Basically Turned Earth Day Into Something You’d Actually Care About

Let’s be real, Earth Day can sometimes feel like a lot of big talk, green buzzwords and “ok noted” moments.

This year, Astro did things a little differently.

For Earth Day 2026, instead of just raising awareness, Astro focused on getting people to actually do something. Inspired by the global theme Our Power, Our Planet, the idea was simple: small actions still matter especially when millions of us do them together.

And they didn’t stop at just one platform.

On TV, Astro teamed up with Love Nature for the premiere of The Kimberley: Australia’s Wild West. Viewers who streamed the documentary got a chance to win prizes like a Hisense Smart TV, an HONOR Watch Fit, and exclusive Love Nature goodies — pretty solid motivation, if you ask us.

But here’s the part that really hit: Love Nature pledged RM1 for every stream, capped at RM15,000. So basically, just by watching a nature doc, you were helping nature too. Zero extra effort required.

Over on Astro AWANI, things got a bit deeper. Climate and sustainability stories took centre stage, along with a real, honest conversation on AWANI Pagi featuring WWF representative and climate activist Fiona Cheong. The segment, Dari Kesedaran, Ke Tindakan, broke down how real change doesn’t just come from governments or big companies — it starts with individuals and communities too. Yes, that includes us.

Radio listeners also got in on the action. Astro Audio rolled out Earth Day content across stations, making sustainability feel way less “scary” and way more doable.

LITE talked microplastics (yep, the tiny ones we don’t usually think about), then opened up the mic to listeners to discuss how to reduce plastic use in daily life. They even ran a zero‑waste challenge in the app — because sometimes, turning habits into a game actually works.

MELODY kept things snackable with short, easy‑to‑watch videos on recycling tips, plus an on‑air chat with an eco‑advocate who translated “go green” into habits that won’t completely change your lifestyle overnight.

MY FM went behind the scenes with content filmed at a landfill — not the prettiest place, but definitely an eye‑opener. Seeing where our trash actually ends up hits differently and makes you think twice about what you throw away.

Other stations showed up too. GEGAR partnered with Jabatan Alam Sekitar Malaysia to share messages on environmental responsibility and saving energy. ERA Sabah ran a Trash to Treasure challenge (turning old stuff into usable items = underrated talent), while ERA Sarawak took things outdoors with a planting initiative that reminded listeners something important: even small plants — and small actions — still count.

ZAYAN wrapped things up with gentle reminders to be more mindful in daily life. Nothing extreme. Just simple, better choices, one step at a time.

To tie everything together, Astro also dropped a special On‑Demand collection called Earth Day: Our Earth, Our Home. Available from 22 April onwards, it’s basically a feel‑good lineup of environmental documentaries, short films and shows — perfect if you want to be inspired without feeling lectured.

At the end of the day, Astro’s Earth Day efforts weren’t about being perfect or saving the world overnight. It was about showing that doing something is always better than doing nothing.

Because change doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes, it starts with pressing play, joining a conversation, or switching up one small habit — and letting that ripple grow.
