Got a bunch of old t-shirts and don’t know what to do with it?

Well, don’t throw it away just yet! Marini Ramlan, also known as Nini Marini, a popular figure in Malaysia’s arts scene has created artworks using ceramics, textiles, metals, and even artificial intelligence.

Her abstract yet decorative style is bold, accessible, and imaginative and has led her to work with various fashion designers and global brands alike.

Gloss and pretty shoots aside, one of the reasons why I want to acknowledge these magazines under #bluincmedia was for their strong women content and how for some reason, as niche as I was, they would always reach out to me to be featured somehow. I would say my print adventures started with Her World magazine in 2000 just at the start of my broadcast career as one of their 20 'Future Faces' (last slide). I was 22 at the time and when they asked me what I wanted to achieve, I told them I wanted to "elevate local TV" (he he ✔). At the very same time I also landed my first art job with them as an illustrator for their horoscope section! I guess I should have taken that as a cue that I would be balancing both art and media always! Since then, I've had the privilege of engaging with the other magazines too (Female, Cleo, Eh!, Cosmopolitan, Women's Weekly, Maria Claire). Oftentimes it was to talk about art or media, do a fun fashion shoot or simply to share how I have mixed both work and art with other young women. It was beautiful to be able to connect this way and I am so thankful for the acknowledgements. Thank you for holding space for me. It is truly meaningful then for me to have had my "last talk" with my "first" (Her World) about my departure from corporate life to fully focus on art. It seems pretty full circle now as things have worked out. These pictures I found in the last few days have made me really reflect on my own journey. All things come to an end. And all things have new beginnings too. I look forward to the next few circles, squares and triangles. Let's try to do it differently in the next round. Till we meet again.
