The first episode of The Mandalorian season 2 debuted on Saturday (31 October), and it was pretty great!
However, eagle-eyed Malaysians spotted another interesting detail during the ending credits- a familiar logo that caught the eyes of Malaysia’s Star Wars fans!

The logo, which belongs to the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), lent its support to the show’s Episode 1 (Chapter 9: The Marshall) through an international VFX studio, Base FX which has its office here in Malaysia.
The visual effects and animation studio has also worked on other Hollywood blockbusters such as Aquaman, Avengers: Infinity Wars, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and more!
According to the New Straits Times, The Mandalorian is eligible for FINAS’ Film In Malaysia Incentive (FIMI), which grants a 30% subsidy from the government to foreign filmmakers who utilise Malaysian talents and locations.

...and don’t worry, the money won’t go into the pockets of the director, Jon Favreau, or Disney CEO Bob Iger but instead, it will benefit Malaysians in the creative and arts industries by developing local talents from the creative industry in Malaysia, thereby attracting international film productions and post-production activities to Malaysia.
See the part that says BASE FX?

Suppose The Mandalorian production paid Base FX, say, RM100k for this episode, FINAS will reimburse them 30% of that cost.

FINAS chief executive officer, Dr. Ahmad Idham told PR Newswire: “I take this opportunity to welcome film producers of every country to invest their productions in Malaysia, as FINAS will subsidize 30% of all expenditures made in Malaysia.”
“We are working closely with production companies to encourage the growth of the creative industry in Malaysia. Through FIMI, the cost of production and post-production can be competitively comparable with neighbouring countries with exceptional production quality, and remarkable visual effects,” he added.
