Sarawak's Ongoing Floods Spark Worrying Crocodile Sightings in Flooded Regions

In recent years, Sarawak has faced its fair share of floods, often intensified by the heavy monsoon rains that not only displace communities but also force wildlife to seek refuge in unexpected places.

Among these displaced creatures are the region's crocodiles, snakes, and lizards—species that are no strangers to the area but become even more dangerous during such natural disasters.

Crocodiles are a well-known part of Sarawak's fauna, and as floodwaters rise, the chances of these reptiles encountering human populations increase. This isn't a new issue for the locals in areas like Bintulu and Miri, where videos have surfaced showing crocodiles patrolling flood-affected zones, adding another layer of peril to an already distressing situation.

One particularly chilling video from Bintulu shows a crocodile navigating through the floodwaters, reminding everyone of the wild dangers lurking in these high waters.

During floods, please remain vigilant and take extra care when near water sources. Wildlife, including dangerous animals such as crocodiles, may be displaced and appear in unusual areas. Always prioritise safety and avoid approaching floodwaters.
