Despite complaints from operators and workers, Putrajaya says food outlets will close at 8pm for now as the government is not ready to allow extended operating hours under the second MCO.

The Movement Control Order (MCO) 2.0 which starts today until 26th January 2021, does not allow inter-state and inter-district travel. More than 300 roadblocks have been imposed in the affected states, namely Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Sabah, as well as the Federal Territories of KL, Putrajaya and Labuan.
As of 13th January this morning, officials have implemented roadblocks in these following areas.

Constitutional lawyer, Surendra Ananth told Astro Radio News that the MCO can still proceed even with an emergency in place.
"MCO is declared under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988. It does not depend on an emergency. It can be even done without a state of emergency. What a state of emergency does is, as stated above, provide drastic powers to the Prime Minister to make laws on wide ranging matters, including suspending our fundamental rights except the freedom of religion,” he said.
Surendra also shared what will happen to the country moving forward.
"Life goes on as usual. Let’s remember that we were living under three proclamation of emergencies until December 2011. I think over 30-40 years, life went on as normal. So it’s only until Parliament sits or Parliament makes drastic laws, that’s when measures will be implemented," he added.
January 12th, 2021 | 12:34pm - Malaysia has declared a state of emergency!
The order will be enforced until August 1st, 2021 or earlier, if daily COVID-19 infection numbers fall.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin assured Malaysians that the state of emergency is not a military coup, and a curfew will not be enforced.
In a special address today (January 12th), he said this is an economic emergency and comes at a time the country is hit not just by the pandemic, but floods as well.
Parliament will be suspended during the emergency and no election can be held.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin doesn’t want to see a repeat of COVID-19 outbreaks after the Sabah state election last September.
Elections will only be held as soon as the Special Task Force recently formed to tackle the pandemic deems it safe to do so.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin also urged the public to remain calm and strong to face this state of emergency and the Movement Control Order (MCO) for our own safety and interest.
Earlier today, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong consented to a Declaration of Emergency Proclamation based on the Federal Constitution.
His Majesty decided this following an audience with the Prime Minister yesterday evening (January 11th).
The emergency decree comes just a day after Putrajaya announced a new MCO in six states for two weeks starting tomorrow (January 13th).
